‘Layering Intention, Physicality and Text’ Workshop – 18 June 2024

This week’s workshop will be facilitated by Sarah Thunder!

‘Layering intention, physicality and text’

In this workshop we will build a short performance bringing a piece of text to life by finding several ways to layer the same intention using voice, physicality, mental focus and imagery. The aim is an easy, unified performance in which all our skills as actors are moving in the same direction. This workshop will draw on elements of Stanislavski and Laban to get body and mind working together within the imagined world of the text.

A bit about our facilitator:

Sarah Thunder first encountered theatre in an amateur production of Caged Birds for the Olivien theatre company more than 20 years ago. She studied drama at Inchicore VEC, then the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and, much later completed a masters in Philosophy of Theatre at Trinity College Dublin.

She has acted in several London productions include ‘Running with Wolves’ at the Trafalgar Studios, London, ‘Margaret’ for Triptych productions and ”Cinderella’ for Partytime productions. In Dublin, she has directed ‘Paint’ for Judder theatre company and co-wrote, produced and directed ‘Therapy’ for the International Bar for her own theatre company, Multiverse. Most recently, she directed ‘God of Carnage’ for Firedoor at Smock Alley and wrote and directed ‘Emily’s House’ for the Raro Theatre festival.

Sarah also runs workshops and individual sessions for actors, with a focus on finding expressive truth and freedom within the constraints of character and play.
